The team of Webb, AQUA, and SKM was tasked to design, oversee, and integrate an upgrade to the aging Water Reclamation Facility for the City of Imperial. Our team devised a comprehensive upgrade for the existing WRF, expanding it into a state-of-the-art 2.4 MGD membrane bioreactor (MBR) facility.
SKM provided the electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EI&C) design for the project. Our team also provided construction management services throughout construction as well as system integration for the facility. The facility required a new electrical service and new standby generator as well as new power distribution to the influent pump station, RAS/WAS building, dewatering building, and shop building. A new electrical building was erected adjacent to the influent pump station and all electrical equipment was removed out of the existing building. This brought the influent pump station into compliance with NFPA 820 requirements and eliminated the problem with hydrogen sulfide corroding the electrical equipment which had previously resulted in shorter equipment life and system failures. A new fiber optic network was designed and installed. New Allen-Bradley PLCs and control panels provided the necessary controls upgrades for the facility. The SCADA system was revamped utilizing Inductive Automation’s Ignition software. A new communications tower was erected and allowed for the City’s lift stations to be monitored over a new high speed radio network. Since the project’s completion, SKM has continued to provide on-call support services for the facility. We are currently working on an upgrade for the Headworks facility and Influent Pump Station. |
